CHEESY FACE

In the interest of not boring you this week I shall try and shorten the less interesting bits of my blog as they seem to be getting longer and longer.

MONDAY 26.05.14
Usual stuff, rack, tap, etc.  Bank Holiday, fell upstairs lots of hilarity ensued, cheers regulars.  Went home and one of my bessys Roz came for coffee and lots and lots of gossip, lovely to see her again I hate that she's moved to Swadlincote and I don't see her all the time like I used to.  Beat Simon at Scrabble (so what's new haha) banished Simon to spare room for coughing

TUESDAY 27.05.14
Another day that I can't remember, I'm going to have to start keeping notes, oh I do remember a bonus scrabble game though, yes I won.

WEDNESDAY 28.05.14
Awesome Open Mic Night, packed full of talent and went on a bit late and unfortunately I didn't get to play my Banjolele with Paul Keeton, next time Paul I'm going to bump you to the front.  Bluesy Steve had a moment, I'll not say any more than that but DON'T do any generic pop covers in his presence (and that of his good friend Old Rosie) I can't guarantee what he'll do (good job I've got two bands on this weekend that do their own stuff).

THURSDAY 29.05.14
Did lots of housework today including cleaning floors, washing, dusting, and washed some pots for the first time in 3 months (I do love having maid Simon)!!!  Met Simon at the station to go to Sheffield.  First we popped in to the Royal Standard run by the lovely lads from Velcro Teddy Bears then down to the Harley to see Polkadodge, The Darlingtons and The Struts.  Heard some good music and got served by the most inept bar staff ever when they could be bothered to serve most of the time they stood behind the bar looking confused and avoiding eye contact and as soon as you managed to get any flicker of life in them they walked away however I did manage to drink copious amounts somehow and we found ourselves back at The Royal Standard in the company of the Teddy Bears and their Open Mic.  Simon got to play the kahuna and accompany Chaddy and Mike and my last memory of the night was thinking how awesome Chaddy and Mike were and how much fun Simon seemed to be having.

FRIDAY 30.05.14
Woke up in a strange bed in a strange room, found the toilet, so thirsty, sat their thinking what a rubbish place this is why isn't their a sink, just a shower and a loo seems odd, I managed to squirt water in my mouth from the shower with difficulty.  Staggered back to bed.  Woke up to the phone ringing Lorna wanting to swap shifts as she's really full of cold, saw the time and said yes but you'll have to go in and do the tills as it appears I'm in a hotel in Sheffield.  Apparently I'd fallen asleep with the dog on the settee in the Royal Standard and Simon thought it best not to put us in a taxi home and booked us into a hotel.  Oh, on the sink front it was in the room just outside the toilet door, weird.  Gingerly got up, no headache just incredibly tired, washed my face in water as I'd got no cleanser, moisturiser or foundation, argh.  Now I've got really dry skin so then I scoured the room for something to use as a moisturiser, no luck, all there was was soap or shower gel and I haven't used soap on my face since I was at school in a production of The Boyfriend and couldn't shift the greasepaint.  Then I happened upon a plate of congealed cheesy chips that Simon had lovingly bought for me (can't remember) after we got to the hotel and I'd not touched, well nothing to do other than pick up a handful and use that as moisturiser, bemoaning the fact that he'd not put mayonnaise on too (although it would probably have been garlic and that would probably have been a bit smelly).  That done applied what makeup I'd got, attempted to do something with my hair and gave up and off we set to the station.  As we walked my left eye began to stream and somehow I'd developed a limp so a fine figure of a woman I must have looked in last nights gear, make up on one eye only, a limp and cheese and chip grease on my face.  Grabbed a healing coffee from a chippy and some cherries from a greengrocer.

On the way we passed some great wall art done by none other than the artist featured in the fabulous Doncopolitan Magazine https://www.facebook.com/doncopolitan (we still have a few copies available at Cask Corner, free) luckily I had my camera on me.

Got to Cask Corner to be greeted by Sandbag telling me there was a brush upstairs (I must look attractive), did all my Friday night preparations, bought fruit, etc and was there to greet the first of the Velcro Teddy Bears when they arrived to set up for the evening to much amusement from them at the state I had been in the previous evening.  Went home, ate, showered, MOISTURISED, and returned to Cask for the evenings entertainment.  Great night, Anastasia Walker was on top form, her voice is up there with the greats.  Good to see One More Mile An Hour again, only a young band but with a lot of potential and finally the Velcro Teddy Bears, awesome, wonderful, amazing their songs are singalongable (if it's not a word it should be) all I can say is these guys should make it they deserve to, they are different and talented and lovely.  They bought some lovely people with them, some I had met the previous evening and apparently danced with and had a fun time.  Home to left overs at 4 am.

SATURDAY 31.05.14
Totally lazy day, sat and caught up on stuff recorded on telly and coloured in.  When I say coloured in I refer to Hanjie, it is a logic puzzle from Japan. You create a simple piece of pixel art by solving the clues. The numbers around the edge of the grid tell you how many squares are to be shaded in each row and column. You never need to guess, though you might need patience and I find it difficult to just watch telly I have to do something else at the same time.

This evenings music was incredible, starting with Mike Gaborak who is a regular at Open Mic and I love his voice, then my baby's, Groomlake Fugitives, who were born at Cask Corner and absolutely rocked this evening, I've never heard them play so well, followed by Sixth of July an amazing band playing their own stuff, the place was packed and several times we ran out of glasses as it was impossible to get through the crowds to collect them.  My team of bar staff have been wonderful this weekend and I thank you all, Bluesy Steve, Lorna B, Joie, Daniel and Becky you're stars.

SUNDAY 01.06.14
White Rabbit, Pinch and a punch first day of the month and all that. Another lazy day of TV, colouring in and toad in the hole then off to Sine FM to do Simons Show.  This is last weeks http://www.sinefm.com/a_z_of_shows/the_other_way (the one with Bailey, Dave, Chaddy and Josh (Groomlake, Sound Guy and Velcro Teddy Bears).  No guests this week just me and Simon.  Home to Trivial Pursuits, two games and Simon won both he knows something about everything!  I answered 50 questions on tennis it seemed although Simon says it was only two, humph.  Not to worry it's Scrabble night tomorrow.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to come along and just listen then you will be equally welcome.

Do you like beer? Do you homebrew? If the answer is yes then this event is for you.

As usual we will meet up and most importantly drink some good beer, but discuss beer, brewing and generally anything beer related.  As always it is not compulsory to bring along some beer that you have made, but if you would like to share your beery creation with the rest of us, that would be great!

Hope to see you all there, Cheers!

Join and meet up with us to discuss Homebrewing, sample other peoples Homebrew and discuss Brewery visits. Lectures from Brewers in the field and maybe the odd competition. This event is free and ideal for starters and amateur pro's.
